In 1970, Sheldon Hall opened as a women's residence hall. The three-story building remained nameless until 1978, when it was dedicated to Margaret Thompson Sheldon, Doane's first dean of women and professor of English. The balcony attached to the front of the building is a popular site for the Sheldon women to "catch some serious rays."
