The Pappy and Debra Khouri Garden and Outdoor Classroom
Doane gained an outdoor classroom and gathering space with the renovation of the Dean Memorial Pergola. Built in 1930 with funds from alumna Carrie Dean in honor of her parents, the pergola is of Greek design and situated over a natural spring. Along with the renovation of the Dean Memorial Pergola, Doane added an outdoor classroom and gathering space. The project revamped the pergola and adjacent area, creating a brick plaza, benches and landscaping. It honors retired college treasurer and Doane graduate Pappy Khouri '70 and his wife, Doane alumna Debra Solomon '71 Khouri. Contributions in part were from current and past members of Delta Kappa Pi, the fraternity to which Pappy served as president and advisor.
