Industry Facts
Allied health care workers promote health, prevent disease, and help patients cope with illness. They are advocates and health educators for patients, families and communities. When providing direct patient care, they observe, assess, and record symptoms, reactions, and progress; assist physicians during treatments and examinations; administer medications; and assist in convalescence and rehabilitation. They also develop and manage nursing care plans; instruct patients and their families in proper care; and help individuals and groups take steps to improve or maintain their health.

Program Overview
The Allied Health program for health care professionals allows you to complete a bachelor's degree based on prior education in nursing or other health care related fields. Doane recognizes that your academic, clinical, and professional experiences in the health care profession constitute a foundation for the Bachelor of Arts degree in Allied Health. Documentation of in-service learning and professional practice, along with formal professional education, provides a sound basis for further study.
Completion of degree requirements involves courses in the liberal arts and electives in areas of interest.
Admission Requirements
Option 1
a. Three-year diploma from a school of nursing
b. Two full years of professional practice as a registered
nurse completed within the last three years
c. Current registration as a certified/licensed professional
Option 2
a. Two-year associate's degree in a health care profession
b. Three full years of employment as a health care
professional completed within the last three years
c. Current registration as a certified/licensed professional
