Student Employment
For most of our students, having a job on campus is part of the Doane experience. Whether they are tutoring other students, working in the library, doing research for a professor, working as a lifeguard at the pool, planting flowers with our groundskeepers, editing the school paper, or working for the Office of Admission, our students find working on campus to be a valuable way to serve their school community, gain important work experience and earn money toward tuition or other expenses.
Studies show that students who work while in college actually do better academically and have higher retention rates. It makes perfect sense to us-as students work alongside each other and our faculty and staff, they build unique relationships and gain confidence and ownership and they learn more about their campus community and invest their time and energy in making it run smoothly.
Student employment consists of the federal work-study program and campus employment. Students are generally awarded work-study as part of their financial aid package. Students who do not qualify for the federal work-study program are still eligible to work-they simply need to contact the Financial Aid Office and indicate their interest.
