Applying for Scholarships and Financial Aid
Financial Aid can consist of scholarships, grants, loans and/or work programs which provide funds to assist you in paying for educational expenses. At Doane College, funds are awarded based on the student's qualifications and/or financial needs.
To apply for financial assistance at Doane, just follow these step-by-step directions:
- Apply for admission to Doane . (Do not wait for your acceptance before completing the next steps.)
- Complete the Free Application for Federal Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). We recommend filing electronically at http://www.fafsfa.ed.gov/ if possible.
- Both student and parent must apply for a PIN (Personal Identification Number) to use as electronic signatures on FAFSA. You can obtain a PIN at http://www.pin.ed.gov.
- It's most helpful to print a copy of the FAFSA On the Web Worksheet and complete it before entering the information online.
- Doane's FAFSA Code is 002544.
- Do keep a copy of your application for your records.
- To receive your aid notification at the earliest possible date, we recommend you complete your FAFSA by March 1.
Apply for all outside sources of assistance for which you are eligible. Talk with your high school guidance counselor or Doane admission counselor for ideas. Community organizations, churches, insurance companies, corporations, and employers often given awards and/or matching grants based on financial need, academic achievement or membership. In most cases, outside scholarships will reduce the amount of loan you will need to finance your Doane education.
If there are special circumstances that affect your family's ability to contribute to your educational expenses, please submit a letter outlining these circumstances to the Financial Aid Office. Instructions for reporting and documenting the most common circumstances can be found on the forms section of the Financial Aid website under Special Circumstances Reporting Information.
It is important that you meet all application deadlines to maximize the amount of assistance available to you.
