 Borrowing
You must present your DOANE ID CARD to check out anything in the library. Courtesy cards are issued for community patrons. See our circulation policy for length of borrowing periods and renewal procedures.

 Interlibrary Loan
We can locate all sorts of library materials and request them for you through interlibrary loan. To request an item fill out an Interlibrary Loan form at the library's front desk, or you may use the online form. You will be contacted when the item arrives. Please return materials on time or renew them early, if allowed. Generally, materials sent via the postal service are received in 7-14 days; journal articles are usually emailed within 1 week.

RECIPROCAL BORROWING -- Between 30 and 40 colleges and universities offer on-site borrowing privileges to you on the basis of presentation of your Doane College ID card. Please keep our borrowing privileges valid by returning materials on time or requesting renewals early. We will even send them back for you.

 Course Reserves

Occasionally faculty set aside materials to be used by students enrolled in a course. They are typically located behind the circulation desk in the library and have special use restrictions. You will need to know the call number of the material so staff can locate it on the reserve shelves for you. Reserve materials can be found using the library catalog:

  1. Click on Reserve Desk in the gray bar near the top of the online catalog screen.
  2. Enter your professor's last name. Make sure you know how it's spelled!
  3. Select your course from the list that appears for that professor, then locate the item you need. Note the call number listed at the top of the item's record to tell the staff person at the desk. That's it!

NOTE: All reserve items must be checked out to be used.

 Purchase Requests
We welcome suggestions of materials for our collections. Please request only materials appropriate to a small college library. Suggestion forms are available from the circulation desk in the library, or you may complete the online purchase request form. If the material is acquired, you will be notified when it is ready for use.

 Reference/Research Assistance
The library staff is ready to help you with reference questions, whether they require a short answer or you need some in-depth one-on-one research assistance. Ask your questions in person, by phone, through chat or email -- whatever's most comfortable for you.

 Copiers/Printers
We have two copier/printers in the library. Doane students are allowed to use these machines at no charge for course-related printing. Faculty and staff should fill out charge slips for their department at the front desk. Non-Doane patrons are asked to pay 5 cents per copy on the honor system at the front desk. Both machines have the capability to convert print to PDF format and to make transparencies, which are available at the circulation desk for 35 cents. We ask you to observe copyright regulations, and ask also for that reason, that you do not require us to make your copies.

 Audio-Visual

Perkins Library has a good collection of films in VHS and DVD formats for classroom or personal use. Other films not in our collection may be borrowed via interlibrary loan and from NETCHE

Audio-visual hardware (e.g., DVD player, LCD projector, carousel, etc.) is available through the Help Desk located one flight up from the Library in CM32.

 Computers
The Information Commons on the first floor of the library offers 10 iMacs for student use, with both Windows and Apple operating systems. WiFi is available throughout the library. Contact the Help Desk if you have any questions or problems with computers.

 What Else?

Typewriters, music CDs, headphones, rare books (in the "Locker" area downstairs), Doane College Archives, microforms, ERIC Documents, State and Federal Documents Depository...just ask!
