The friends of Arts Are Basic invite the Lincoln community to attend the organization's premiere Garden Tour Event:
"Growing Classrooms Beyond the Predictable"
Sunday, September 4, 2011
1 - 4 pm
About Arts Are Basic
Formed in 1989, Arts Are Basic has been helping teachers keep their classrooms alive with the arts.
Arts Are Basic is a program unique to Lincoln and rural Nebraska serving thousands of students each year. It is the only program in Nebraska that connects teaching artists, K-12 classroom teachers, after-school staff and students. Together they build a connection to a work of art.
Help for Teachers
Arts Are Basic teaches and enhances a way of learning about one's self and one's environment. When a teacher or after-school staff member and their students work through a unit of study - focused on a performance of dance, music, theater or visual art - all participants watch, learn, think and express the process of creating.
Arts Are Basic provides a different way to engage other forms of intelligence, such as:
- kinesthetic
- visual-spatial
- interpersonal skills
- offering teachers a way to deepen learning across many disciplines
