The Tiger volleyball picked up a win to open the season on Friday afternoon by topping Jamestown College in the Red Raider Classic. Doane ranked No. 20 in the NAIA, moved to 1-0 on the season. Jamestown is receiving votes in the NAIA national poll. The Jimmies took the opening game, 25-23, as the Tigers were plagued by service errors. Doane bounced back to take games two and three. In game two, won 25-21, senior Heather Davison was a key factor to the Tiger win. Davison had three ace serves along with two kills from her setter position.
In game three, won 25-18, the Tigers used a strong serving rotation by Kellie Peterson, and the attack at the net by Ashley Axmann. Peterson was able to keep Jamestown from getting into their offensive system and the Tigers were took advantage as Davison set-up Axmann for several kills during the latter stages of the match.
Jamestown battled back, posting eight ace serves in game four to even the match at 2-2. They won the game, 25-19.
Doane battled back in game five to come away with a 15-12 victory to win the match.
For the match, Doane hit .221 as they posted 56 kills on 149 attacks. Axmann led the way with 22 kills while Terra Andreasen and Susan Rollman posted 10 kills apiece. Axmann and Davison finished with three ace serves each as Doane posted eight as a team. Davison led the Tigers with 32 set assists while Cassie Reicks finished with 11.
Defensively, the Tigers improved as the match went on, outside of the fourth set serve receive game. Andreasen led the Tigers with 18 digs while Nikki Degenhardt posted 17. Davison finished with 15 digs and Nicole Skolnick added 10. At the net, Emily Max led the team with four total blocks. Rollman added two solo and one assisted block while Davison and Peterson finished with three assist blocks.
Shannon Fee led Jamestown with 19 kills and five total blocks. Katie Zent added 10 kills and three blocks. Sarah Becker posted six total blocks while Jada Meiklejohn had a team-high 23 assists.
