Academic All-American list

ESPN the Magazine and CoSIDA released today the Academic All-American list for baseball and Doane College junior Dexter Spitsnogle was named to the Third Team for the College Division. The squads are selected from the previously announced eight All-District First Team recipients.

Spitsnogle, a junior from Odell, Neb., was one of the top pitchers for the Tigers this season, finishing out the season with a 6-2 record in 11 starters and a 2.48 earned run average. He held opponents to a .208 batting average while striking out 74, an average of 11.5 strikeouts per nine innings which ranks 7th in the NAIA. In the classroom, Spitsnogle is a physics and mechanical engineering major while posting a 3.87 GPA.

He is one of five student-athletes to earn the honor at Doane and the first to do so in baseball.  Of the nominees selected this year for baseball, Spitsnogle is the only member from a NAIA institution.
