Doane pitchers combined for a shutout in game two on Sunday as the Tigers defeated Ashford University, 9-0. Ryan Otto picked up the win and received relief from Chance Brull. Anthony Dunn was hit by a pitch and pinch ran for by Colt Cochran. Anthony Hincy walked to move Cochran to second base and Jason West walked with two outs to load the bases. Cochran scored on a throw over to third base that got away.
In the third inning, Doane posted four runs behind one big hit. Dunn walked and was ran for by Cochran. West walked and AJ Spanel was hit by a pitch to load the bases for Josh Reed. Reed followed with a grand slam, home run to put Doane ahead, 5-0.
Doane plated three more runs in the fourth. Mike Albert was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. Hincy walked and the two base runners moved up on a wild pitch. Tom Frinkman followed with a two-run single. West reached on a fielder's choice and came around to score on an error by the right fielder on a ball hit by Spanel.
The final run of the game came in the fifth inning with two outs. Dean Henson pinch hit and walked. Dunn singled and moved Henson to third. Hincy followed with a double to plate Henson.
In the mean time, Otto and Brull were combining to throw a solid game. Otto threw five innings, allowing five hits and striking out five. Brull threw the final two innings, striking out three as he did not allow a base runner.
The win moved the Tigers record to 6-2 on the year.
