Doane scored the first run of the game but the bats were quieted after the first inning and the Tigers fell 9-1 in the night-cap of the doubleheader versus Ashford University. The loss dropped the Tigers record to 4-2 on the year. The first inning looked to be off to a good start as Mike Albert led the frame off with a single but a double play slowed down what may have been a promising inning. Doane didn't end the inning quietly though, as they were still able to manage a run. Anthony Hincy singled and moved up following walks to Blake Snow and Tom Frinkman. Derin Benson singled to bring in the Tiger run.
Ashford came back and tied the game in the third with a run and took the lead in the fourth with a pair of runs following a two-run double. Ashford added a run in the fifth to take a 5-1 lead.
Doane starter Britton Scheele allowed four runs over five innings of work. He gave up six hits and three walks while striking out six.
Evan Koetter took over for Scheele in the sixth and ran into trouble as he allowed four runs in one-third of an inning. He only allowed one hit but gave up two walks as well as having a batter reach on an error. Zach Klene came in to the game following Koetter and allowed one run in one-third of an inning on two hits. Mason Nash closed out the inning but Ashford had plated five runs and taken a 9-1 lead.
For the game, Doane was limited to six hits. Hincy finished 2-for-3 for the Tigers to lead the way.
