Tigers Compete at NAIA Meet

The Doane College Track & Field men's team will bring back a seventh place finish the NAIA National Championship Meet held in Johnson City, Tennessee, this past week. The Doane women finished 17th overall at the championship meet. Eight Tigers earned NAIA All-American honors with Top Six finishes in their event. Two Doane athletes, Virgil Mitchell and Deejay Silcott, earned All-American honors in two events.

The top finish for the Tiger athletes came from Jared Schuurmans as he placed second in the shot put with a throw of 57-11.25. Katie Bartels came up shy in her bid to repeat as an individual national champion in the high jump. Bartels placed third with a mark of 5-08.75, her best mark of the season. Mitchell was also unable to defend his crown in the 60m hurdles, placing third with a time of 8.03. He finished .004 seconds out of second place.

Silcott placed in the 60m and 200m dashes. She finished 6th in the 60 and 5th in the 200. Blair Dixon placed 5th in the 400m dash. The Tiger 4x400m relay team of Laith Etmund, Adam Bosley, Vince Martinez and Mitchell placed 6th in the final event of the meet.
