Doane closed out their trip to Joplin, Mo., with their third victory in two days, defeating Graceland University in a nine-inning contest, 7-1. Doane improved to 3-1 on the year with the victory, their second over the Yellow Jackets in two days. The Tigers were able to get on the scoreboard in three different innings but in each inning, they scored multiple runs. Doane jumped on the board in the first inning as Mike Albert led off with a single and scored on an Anthony Hincy single. Tom Frinkman doubled to plate Hincy for a 2-0 lead.
Graceland came back in the bottom of the second inning to cut the Tiger lead in half with an unearned run. An error allowed the Yellow Jackets to score on a single by Dave Letourneau but Dexter Spitsnogle got out of the inning with back-to-back strikeouts.
Doane added to their lead in the fourth inning with two more runs. Blake Snow reached on an error and scored on a Frinkman triple. Jason West followed with a ground out RBI for the Tigers to give them a 4-1 lead.
In the seventh inning, Doane plated three runs. Josh Reed led off with a single followed by a double by Dylan Flott. Albert hit a sacrifice fly to score Reed for a 5-1 lead. The scoring in the game was closed out when Hincy hit a two-run home run for the Tigers.
Hincy finished the game going 3-for-5 with two runs and three RBIs for the Tigers. Frinkman went 3-for-4 with a run and two RBIs. Albert added two hits to go with a run and a RBI.
Spitsnogle picked up his first win of the season as he threw five innings. He allowed three hits and walked four while striking out five. Mike Korsakas was untouched in three innings of work, as he struck out two batters and did not allow a hit. Matt Komenda threw the ninth inning, allowing one hit and striking out one, in a non-save situation.
