Dordt College hit a school-record 17 three-point baskets as they rolled to a 105-70 victory over Doane in the last scheduled basketball game in Fuhrer Field House. The Tigers are expected to be in their new facility next fall. The loss, combined with a Morningside win at Nebraska Wesleyan, means the Tigers will head to Sioux City to take on the Mustangs in the First Round of the GPAC Tournament. Dordt led for all but 34 seconds of play, when there was no score, and pulled away with 10 first half three-point buckets. The Defenders shot 76.9-percent from behind the arc in the first half. For the game, Dordt shot 64.4-percent from the floor and 65.4-percent from behind the arc. The Defenders were also using good ball movement, finishing the game with 30 assists on 38 made baskets.
Doane on the other hand, shot fairly well, hitting 46-percent of their shots for the game but struggled at the free throw line where they were 7-of-17 (41.2-percent). The Tigers committed eight turnovers, tying a season low.
Three Tigers finished in double figures as Jake Johnson led the way with 15 points on 7-of-11 shooting. Jens Scholl added 11 points and Austin Benson picked up 10 points. Benson led the team with three assists while Johnson and Scholl led the team with four rebounds apiece.
Dordt had five players in double figures, led by Logan Kingma's 26 points on 9-of-10 shooting. He was 6-of-7 from behind the arc. Michael Eekhoff posted a game-high nine assists and seven rebounds.
Doane will face Morningside on Tuesday, February 23, at 7:00 PM in Sioux City.
