The Doane men's tennis team took on William Jewell College in the opener on Friday evening in Lincoln. The Cardinals, receiving votes in the NAIA national poll, are in the process of moving to NCAA Division II in three more years. The Cardinals dropped the Tigers, 9-0, controlling each match over the Tigers in the opener for both teams.
At No. 1 singles, Ross Schulenburg fell to Cody Pflugradt, 6-3, 6-1. Josh Siske dropped his No. 2 singles match to Kyle Taylor, 6-1, 6-2. Josh Johnson lost at No. 3 singles to Kyle Lehenbauer, 6-1, 6-1.
Jake Zlatkovsky fell at No. 4 singles to Cole Stretch, 6-0, 6-0. Tony Bieck was downed at No. 5 singles by Chris Dailey, 6-1, 6-0. Aaron Haag was dropped at No. 6 singles by Brandon Ambroske, 6-1, 6-0.
In No. 1 doubles action, Schulenburg and Siske fell to Pflugradt and Taylor, 8-0. Johnson and Zlatkovsky fell at No. 2 doubles to Lehenbauer and Stretch, 8-1. Bieck and Haag dropped their No. 3 doubles match to Ambroske and Jake Szybowicz, 8-1.
