The Doane women's tennis team opened the season with a tough opener on Friday evening in Lincoln as they took on William Jewell College. The Cardinals just missed being ranked in the NAIA Top 25 preseason poll when it was released February 9. The Tigers had four new members to this year's squad playing in the opener, a 9-0 loss to the Cardinals. In singles action, Doane picked up two games while in doubles action they were able to take four games overall.
At No. 1 singles, Karlee Long lost 6-0, 6-1, to Tayna Ratana. Kendra Bender fell at No. 2 singles to Hana Lindbloom, 6-0, 6-0. Andy Johnson dropped her No. 3 singles match to Carli Bisesi, 6-0, 6-0.
Jailyn Hagaman fell at No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-0, to Jaime Baker. Jordan Lintt lost to Megan Groninger at No. 5 singles, 6-0, 6-0. Clara Staudenmaier dropped her No. 6 singles match to Abby Pratt, 6-0, 6-1.
In doubles action, Bender and Long lost at No. 1 to Ratana and Nikki Chambers, 8-2. Johnson and Hagaman fell at No. 2 to Lindbloom and Baker, 8-2. Lintt and Staudenmaier dropped their No. 3 match to Bisesi and Kelsie George, 8-0.
