The Doane men's track team rattled off four automatic NAIA qualifying marks and seven provisional marks at the Wichita State Shocker Quad Meet on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers took on NCAA Division I teams Wichita State and Texas at Arlington as well as Butler Community College. Doane was led by the field events, in particular the throws. Jared Schuurmans won the shot put with a throw of 17.04m (55-11.00), an automatic mark.
In the weight throw, Jake Eckhardt posted an automatic mark with a throw of 16.86m (55-03.75) as he placed second behind an unattached participant. Jacob Clouse hit an automatic mark with a throw of 16.15m (53-00.00).
Posting provisional marks in the weight throw were Schuurmans (15.80m, 51-10.00), Alvin Voss (15.68m, 51-05.50) and Zane Pfefferle (15.50m, 50-10.25).
In the triple jump, Brian Hubbert picked up a provisional mark with a leap of 13.99m (45-10.75).
The men's 4x400m relay team picked up a provisional mark with a time of 3:23.03. The team consisted of Vince Martinez, Alex Reynolds, Laith Etmund and Virgil Mitchell.
Mitchell had a solid day on the track. He placed third in the 60m dash with a time of 6.97, a provisional mark. In the 400m dash, he ran a provisional time of 49.73 to place third. He hit an automatic time in the prelims of the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.29.
Doane placed third overall in the meet with 120.50 points. International scoring rules applied, the top two finishers from each team were awarded points. Wichita State won the meet with 187 points and Texas at Arlington placed second with 131.50 points.
