On Saturday evening in a win over the University of Sioux Falls, Doane senior Vanessa Munter reached a personal milestone by scoring her 1,000th career point as a Tiger. Munter hit the mark right before halftime has she knocked down a jumper with 1:14 remaining. She was fouled on the play and converted the free throw. Munter finished with 21 points in the game as Doane won 68-62 over the Cougars. Sioux Falls is receiving votes in the NAIA national poll. The victory also capped off a strong week for Munter and the Tigers. They defeated Concordia University, another team receiving votes, as Munter posted 17 points in the game. She averaged 19 points and four rebounds and three steals per game.
She has played a big role in the Tigers' turnaround over past two weeks in which they have won 4 of 5 games. Munter is averaging 20.2 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.4 steals per game while shooting 50-percent from the floor.
Munter currently stands at 1,014 points, 27th on the all-time Doane women's basketball scoring list. She is the daughter of Gene and Marsha Munter of Hickman, Nebraska, and a graduate of Norris High School. She is a physical education and biology major at Doane.
