Whitney Poole
1st Doane All-American |
Doane College outfielder Whitney Poole (Holtville, Ala./Waverly H.S. (Neb.)) continued to add to her list of awards and honors this past week as she was named honorable mention All-American by the NAIA. The significance of the honor is that she becomes the first ever Doane College softball player to be named an All-American.
Poole led the Tigers in several offensive categories during her junior season. She posted a .412 batting average, collecting 56 hits, scoring 38 runs and stealing 30 bases. She also had a .488 on-base percentage to lead the team. She was fourth on the team with 20 runs batted in.
As a lead-off hitter, Poole has been able to use her speed to be a threat at the plate and on the bases. She has 70 career stolen bases, second in Doane history, and placed sixth in the NAIA this season in stolen bases per game (0.79). Poole was 23rd in the NAIA in hits per game (1.474) and 29th in runs per game (1.000).
She is also a solid defensive player, running the outfield defense in center field. She had one of the strongest and most accurate arms in the conference and even played a few innings this season at shortstop when the Tigers were fighting a few injuries.
This season, she was named First Team All-GPAC in the outfield. She also excelled in the classroom, earning NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors.
