Doane College Athletic Director Greg Heier announced today that the baseball coaching position will be moved to a full-time position effective July 1. The change will mark the first time that the baseball coaching position will be exclusively full-time at Doane as a coaching position.
"This move was necessary to adequately serve the students participating in baseball at Doane College," Heier comments.
Doane baseball coach Jeremy Jorgensen will continue on as a full-time staff member of the college but will be relieved of his duties working with transfers in the Admission Office. As part of his coaching duties, Jorgensen will oversee the athletic facility grounds that include the Ledon Softball & Baseball Field Complex, track field events competition area and The Den, Doane's grass soccer facility.
Heier had the following to say about Coach Jorgensen and the benefits of the change.
"Coach Jorgensen has done a phenomenal job of recruiting students to Doane and his baseball program and the sheer numbers of players in the program demand that Coach Jorgensen be able to devote his full attention to the development of his players as students and as athletes. With the exciting nucleus of excellent young players on the baseball team, we expect the move to pay great dividends on and off the baseball field. The move will also allow Coach Jorgensen to use his expertise in athletic field maintenance to keep the new Ledon Softball & Baseball Complex in top condition as well as help maintain our other athletic fields."
Jorgenson also shared his sentiments and thoughts about the change.
"I'd like to thank the administration at Doane College for their support of this position. We have a lot of exciting things going on at Doane College and this is another positive step forward in the commitment to academic and athletic excellence of our students."
Doane has posted 40 overall victories and 23 in conference play over the past two years under Jorgensen, the most in a two-year span since the 2002 & 2003 seasons.
