The Doane women's basketball kept their season alive with a 79-70 victory over Briar Cliff on Tuesday evening in Crete. The victory moves the Tigers into the Quarterfinal Round of the GPAC Tournament. Doane jumped out to an early five point lead in the game but a 13-4 run gave the Chargers an 18-14 advantage. The Tigers were unable to take the lead back in the first half and trailed 39-35 at halftime.
The Tigers opened the second half with a 20-6 run to build a 10-point advantage, 55-45. Nine of the points in the run were scored by the Tiger seniors Lindsay Anderson and Amy Fox.
The lead was trimmed to two points, 63-61, before the Tigers built their lead back to nine. The Chargers could only cut the lead to six points as Doane hit 7-of-8 free throws late in the game.
Five players were in double-figures for the Tigers, led by Hannah Helman's 18 points. Fox posted a double-double, 15 points and 11 rebounds, as did freshman Kristine Ortmeier, 14 points and 11 rebounds. Lindsay Anderson added 13 points and six assists while Vanessa Munter finished with 10 points.
The offensive rebounds were controlled by Doane as they finished with 24 in the game. Doane out-rebounded Briar Cliff, 52-32, for the game.
