Article Body

It started to feel like déjà vu all over again for the Tigers on Wednesday evening in Fremont against Midland Lutheran College.  The Tigers had a late lead only to see it slip away.  At one time, they were up 16 points in the second half.  Things would be different this time around as Tyler Weatherholt hit a jump as time expired to give the Tigers an 81-79 victory over the Warriors.

Doane built their lead in the first half on a blistering 74-percent shooting from the field.  They hit 8-of-11 three-point attempts and missed only seven shots from the field.  They took a 51-37 lead into halftime.

The Tigers cooled off in the second half, shooting 37-percent.  They were solid from the free throw line, hitting 9-of-10 attempts.  Doane held a 10 point lead with 3:30 left in the game.  However, the Warriors went on a 10-0 run over the next 1:40 and tied the game at 77-77.

Doane retook the lead on a pair of free throws from Jack Lind but Midland Lutheran responded with a basket to tie the game back up with 34 second remaining.  Doane ran the clock down to eventually set up the last play.

On the baseline out-of-bound, Lind received the pass but did not have a shot opportunity.  He kicked out to Weatherholt and he knocked down the 12 foot jumper to send the Tiger bench rushing out onto the court.

The win snapped a 10 game losing streak and the 81 points were the most since Doane put up 84 versus York College on November 11.  The Tigers had 24 assists on 30 made field goals.

Jake Johnson carried the Tigers in the first half, scoring 20 of his game-high 29 points.  He hit 5-of-8 three-point attempts in the game.  Weatherholt finished with 22 points.  Lind ended with 12 points, eight rebounds and eight assists as he kicked out of a double team on several occasions.  He was perfect from the floor, 5-of-5, and the free throw line.

Midland Lutheran placed five players in double-figures, led by Jason Ahrens' 15 points and five assists.
