MLC Downs Tigers in Overtime

Doane squandered a four point lead in the final two minutes and fell in overtime to Midland Lutheran College, 79-75.  The loss was the first to MLC in six years.

Doane got off to a slow start, falling behind by 11 points half way through the first half of play.  Doane trailed by five points at halftime, 35-30.  The Warriors out-scored the Tigers 14-4 in second chance points as MLC picked up 15 offensive rebounds during the period.

The Tigers scratched their way back and took their first lead of the game with 11 minutes remaining on a pair of Vanessa Munter free throws.  Doane built a seven point lead with six minute remaining but the Warriors wouldn't go away.  With six seconds remaining in the contest, Midland's Kerry Butzke hit a lay-up to force overtime.

The Warriors dominated the overtime period, building an eight point lead behind a 10-2 run to start the extra five minutes.  Eight of their points came from the free throw line during the first four minutes.  Doane on the other hand did not get into the double bonus until there were 23 seconds remaining in the overtime whereas MLC was in the double bonus in regulation.

Lindsay Anderson led all scorers with 18 points.  Vanessa Munter posted 14 points and Brittany Lurz added 12 points.

Midland Lutheran had five players in double-figures in scoring, led by Marcy Hauschild's 14 points.
