Doane's trip to the northern schools this past weekend proved to be very difficult as the Tigers dropped three of their four games. On Friday, Sioux Falls topped the Tigers 1-0 and 7-2. On Sunday afternoon, Briar Cliff split with the Tigers as Doane won game one, 8-6, and the Chargers took game two, 7-2.
Sioux Falls Doubleheader
In game one, Bryan Dutcher threw a complete game for the Tigers as he allowed a run in the bottom of the eighth inning. After a one-out triple, Dutcher was forced to walk the bases loaded and USF scored the game-winning run on a sacrifice fly. Dutcher limited the Cougars to a pair of hits in the game.
Doane was held to three hits in the contest, two off the bat of Thomas Frinkman.
In game two, USF jumped on starter Dexter Spitsnogle for four runs in the first two innings. Austin Parker pitched 4.2 innings, allowing three runs. Doane committed five errors in the contest and eight on the day.
The Tiger bats were held in check as they collected two hits, doubles from Chris Williams and Marshall Carr.
Briar Cliff Doubleheader
Doane and Briar Cliff had a pair of three-run innings in game one but the Tigers had two innings were they plated a single run for the difference in the ball game.
Kyle Schachenmeyer picked up the win for Doane, throwing two-thirds of an inning. Evan Bumgarner picked up the save as he threw three hitless innings, striking out five.
At the plate, Doane took advantage of four Charger errors. Cody Shoultz and Chris Williams had two hits and two runs a piece for the Tigers.
In game two, Evan Koetter took the loss as he allowed seven runs over six innings. Doane was held to five hits in the game. Adam Bies collected both RBIs for the Tigers.
