Doane and Concordia hooked up in GPAC baseball action on Monday evening, making up their doubleheader lost from Friday. Doane jumped out to a 6-0 lead through three innings in game one and held on for a 6-5 win. In game two, the Tigers fell 5-3.
Doane received RBIs from Chris Williams and Thomas Frinkman in the first inning of game one. Williams singled to plate Mike Mendenhall and Frinkman hit a sacrifice fly to score Cody Shoultz.
In the third inning, Williams and Frinkman drew lead off walks and came around to score on Tim Engelhaupt's base hit. Dean Henson followed with a single to plate Evan Bumgarner, who reached on an error, and Engelhaupt.
Bryan Dutcher collected the win and Evan Koetter notched the save. Tiger pitchers combined for seven strike outs.
In game two, the Tigers fell behind early and were unable to bounce back. Doane picked up single runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings.
Frinkman doubled in the third to plate Eric Stuart who was running for Luke Henderson. Henderson reached on a double. Brent Payne singled in the fourth to score Engelhaupt. Dutcher drew a bases loaded, hit-by-pitch to score Mendenhall in the fifth inning for the Tigers final run of the game.
Concordia scored their five runs in the first three innings.
