Doane and Nebraska Wesleyan battled in non-conference play on Wednesday afternoon with the Prairie Wolves coming out on top 6-4.  Doane held a 4-2 lead until NWU plated four runs in the seventh inning and held on for the win in the nine inning ball game.

Doane struck first with two runs in the top of the first.  With two outs, Thomas Frinkman singled for Doane and scored on a drop fly ball by the NWU left fielder on a ball hit by Chris Williams.  Evan Bumgarner followed with an RBI single to plate Williams.

NWU plated single runs in the second and fifth inning to tie the game at 2-2. 

In the top of the seventh, Doane regained the lead with two more runs.  Mike Mendenhall picked up a single and Luke Henderson reached on a fielder's choice as Mendenhall moved to second.  Jason West followed and reached on a throwing error that allowed Mendenhall to score.  Tim Engelhaupt put down a bunt that scored Eric Stuart, who was running for Henderson, and Engelhaupt reached on an infield single.

NWU answered in the bottom of the seventh with four runs, three off of Trevor Buchholz who took the loss.  He did not allow a hit in 1.1 innings of work but left with the bases loaded after hitting three of four batters.  Kyle Schachenmeyer came in for Buchholz and the first batter he faced, he hit to force in a run.  NWU followed with a two-run single and a sacrifice bunt to plate their runs.

For the game, the Tigers finished with six hits, two from Evan Bumgarner.  The defense turned two double plays but committed two errors.

Doane will travel to Seward to take on Concordia University on April 11.
