Doane jumped out to a 3-1 start in conference play after pulling off a sweep of Mount Marty College on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers jumped on the Lancers in the first game and held on for a 6-4 win. In game two, Doane won a pitcher's dual 2-0. The team improved to 10-13 overall on the season.
In game one, Jacob Bartek pitched six innings and allowed two runs on five hits while striking out five Lancer batters. Evan Bumgarner picked up the save by picking up the final out of the game.
Calan Reichstein was the top performer at the plate for Doane, going 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a run scored. Bumgarner added a 2-for-3 effort with one RBI.
Dexter Spitsnogle threw 5 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing three hits in game two. He struck out five batters, several of which helped get the team out of jams during the game. Austin Parker closed out the game and picked up his first save.
Cody Shoultz and Brent Payne collected RBIs for Doane while Bryan Dutcher and Tim Engelhaupt had two hits each.
