Doane scored four runs in the first inning of the day and it carried the Tigers to a 5-3 victory over Peru State College. The Tigers would not have it as easy in game two and they needed eight innings to defeat the Bobcats, 4-3.
In game one, Pamela Masker collected three hits in four at-bats and scored two runs. She hit a solo home run in the fourth inning. Stephanie Mosley, Jennifer Montoya, Joy Vasa and Amy Hamik collected two hits a piece.
Jennifer Liddell picked up the win, pitching seven innings while allowing five hits and walking nine batters. She struck out four hitters in her first collegiate win.
In game two, the Tigers scored their first run in the fourth inning. Alyssa Ledon led off with a double. Brandi Martinson, running for Ledon, scored on a Montoya sacrifice fly.
Peru State scored their first run in the sixth inning and took their first lead of the day in the seventh inning. They held a 2-1 advantage heading into the bottom of the inning. Montoya doubled with one out and Kristin Schmidt, running for Montoya, scored on a Shelly White single with two outs.
The game went extra innings, with Peru State scoring in the top of the eighth inning. Each team placed the last batter of the previous inning on second to start their inning at-bat. Megan Steele worked out of trouble and stranded two PSC runners on base.
In the bottom of the inning, Hannah Kroese had a one-out single to score Amy Hamik from second base. Kroese moved up to second base on the throw home. After Ledon reached on a fielder's choice, Kroese stole third base. Masker followed up with a single for the game-winning hit.
Kroese and Masker finished with two hits each in the game.
