The Tigers played their first games at Ledon Baseball Field on Sunday afternoon and came away with a split with Valley City State University. Doane won game one 10-4 but dropped game two 6-3. They moved to 2-9 overall on the season.
In game one, Bryan Dutcher picked up the win after throwing five innings. He allowed four runs on three hits while walking five batters and striking out five. Chris Plourde closed out the game, pitching two innings and allowing three hits.
Mike Mendenhall paced the offense with a 2-for-2 effort while reaching base in all five at-bats. He scored three runs to go with his two stolen bases. Cody Shoultz had one hit and four runs batted in for the Tigers.
In game two, Mendenhall had another solid game at the plate by collecting three hits in four at-bats. Chris Williams was 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI in the game.
On the mound, Evan Koetter struggled as he allowed five runs in 2.1 innings of work. Kyle Schachenmeyer allowed the other Viking run in the fifth inning. Koetter took the loss.
