The Tiger baseball team got their season under way, dropping a doubleheader to William Woods University in Missouri. The Tigers fell in game one, 11-1, and in game two, 10-0. Both games ended in the sixth inning.
In game one, Marshall Carr took the loss. He allowed six earned runs in 1.2 innings of work. The Owls were able to pick up five hits and two walks against Carr. Kyle Schachenmeyer and Jacob Bartek pitched in relief for Doane.
Offensively, Dean Henson paced the Tigers with two hits and an RBI. Also picking up hits for Doane were Mike Mendenhall, Tyler Johnson, Bryan Dutcher and Thomas Frinkman. Frinkman scored the only Tiger run. Doane left seven runners on base while striking out 11 times in the game.
The Doane defense committed three errors in the game but did turn the only double play. Justin Koch led William Woods with a 3-for-4 effort with two RBIs.
In game two, the Tiger bats were held in check as they collected only three hits. Chris Kilmer joined Dutcher and Henson with hits in the second game. Doane stranded five runners on base while striking out eight times.
The Doane defense committed two errors while turning a double play.
Evan Koetter took the loss for the Tigers, allowing eight earned runs in four innings on six hits. Dexter Spitsnogle pitched the remaining 1.2 innings of work before the 10-run rule took effect.
BJ Underkofler led the Owls with four hits and three RBIs.
