Doane/Northwestern Statistics
Doane, with an opportunity to play spoiler in the NAIA playoff picture, was unable to come away from Orange City, Iowa, with a victory over Northwestern College. The Red Raiders, in a must win situation, came out on fire and built a 24-0 lead before the Tigers were able to get on the scoreboard. When the final whistle blew, Doane fell 38-13, ending the season at 4-6.
Northwestern scored 17 points in the first quarter, with two scoring drives of 35 yards or less. Taylor Malm found the end zone three times for the Red Raiders with two rushing touchdowns and one receiving.
Doane got on the scoreboard just before halftime when Garrett Schroeder scored from one yard out with 41 seconds remaining. The Tigers took nine plays to find the end zone, highlighted by quarterback Bryan Dutcher connecting on 3-of-4 pass attempts for 42 yards. Senior tight ends Luke Burson and Brian Maronde had receptions on the drive.
The Tigers' second score of the game came on a D'Artagnan Dai'Re 77 yard scamper. Dai'Re finished with 87 yards on two carries.
Tyler Reichle picked up two touchdown receptions to seal the victory for Northwestern.
Doane's defense was led by Josh Warren's 14 tackles, seven solo. Senior Dustin Lind finished with eight tackles while fellow seniors Kedrick Kelley and Kyle Coffie added six each.
