Pre-Friday Afternoon Club at Lazlo’s in Lincoln

Approximately 30 alumni gathered for an early start to the weekend at an after-work social on March 29 at Lazlo’s Brewery and Grill South in Lincoln. Hosts for the event were Megan Lesoing ’06, Stephanie Merritt ’06, Carrie Conrad ’06, John Gadeken ’04, Ed ’82 and Liz Olsen ’82 Schulenberg, and Jon Zvolanek ’82.

Lincoln Campus Reunion during Holiday Open House

During the annual Doane Lincoln Christmas party, members of the 10-year reunion class received a t-shirt with the new Doane logo. High-school classmates and 20-year Doane graduates Brenda Franklin ‘86L and Judy Schaeffer ‘86L also attended.

Kansas City Reception

Twenty alumni, parents and friends of Doane enjoyed “Holidays on the Plaza” at the Marriott Country Club Plaza, Dec. 7. During the holiday season, more than 80 miles of jewel-colored lights illuminate the Country Club Plaza. The reception was hosted by Rich ’88 and Dena Gosch ’88 Bartlett, Brad ’80 and Tammy Gardner, and Bernie ’82 and Nancy Nuernberger ’83 Thomsen. Attending from Doane were President Jonathan Brand; Karen Wisman Morris ’78, director of alumni affairs; and Cody Vance ’82, director of special projects.

Men’s Alumni Basketball Game

Twenty-one former Doane players attended the 20th annual alumni game, Jan. 6. The players teamed up to play two 20-minute halves. Matt Vecchio ’06 won the 3-point shot contest, making 16 baskets in one minute. Mario Peart ’75 earned accolades for playing the full alumni game at age 58. Following the game, the players enjoyed a pizza lunch in the Honor D Room.

Ernest "Ernie" '42 and Wynell "Nell" Fridrich, Camarillo, CaliforniaLos Angeles Gathering

The Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum in Simi Valley was the location for the annual alumni gathering in the Los Angeles area on Jan. 21. Following a two-hour guided tour, the 46 guests in attendance enjoyed a dessert reception, where Gladys “Perky” Stone Foster ’43 received the Exceptional Service Award from President Jonathan Brand. This award recognizes alumni and friends who have provided extraordinary service to forward the cause of Doane College through their volunteer efforts.

Alumni hosts were Richard ’57 and Helen Sysel ’58 Vasak, John ’81 and Leslie Bauer, Ruth Hougland Lazalde ’83, Francie Foster Osias ’83, and Don and Gina Jochim ’88 Otjen. Also attending from Doane were Dan Meyer, director of planned giving; Kari Nott ’03, assistant director of The Doane Fund; and Cody Vance ’82, director of special projects.

Dallas/Fort Worth Event

A barbecue buffet dinner at the E.H. Hereford University Center at the University of Texas-Arlington was the setting for the alumni event on Jan. 28. The dinner followed a late afternoon concert by the Doane College Symphonic Wind Ensemble (SWE), under the direction of Dr. Jay Gilbert, at the university’s Irons Recital Hall. Approximately 30 alumni, friends and parents attended the concert, and then joined SWE members for the barbecue dinner.

Roger ’55 and Katherine “Tat” Graves ’57 Osterhout, Dean ’63 and Yvonne Smith ’65 White, Gene Schmutte ’66, and Tom Hart ’86 were alumni hosts. Attending from Doane were President Jonathan Brand; Dan Meyer, director of planned giving; Karen Wisman Morris ’78, director of alumni affairs; and Cody Vance ’82, director of special projects.

Alums Host Softball Team

Los Angeles area alumni, friends and parents met the Doane softball team at a Sunday afternoon reception during the Sun West Softball Tournament at Chapman University in Orange, Calif. on March 18. President Jonathan Brand and Christine Cerny, senior director of development, hosted the sandwich reception between games.The annual Lincoln alumni event being held at the historic Ferguson House

Lincoln Chapter

The Capital Alumni Chapter hosted the annual Lincoln alumni event at the historic Ferguson House near the Capitol building downtown. The afterwork social was catered by The Venue. Following a short program and remarks, tours of the house were provided by a docent.

Phoenix Reception

An after-work reception with President Jonathan Brand took place at the Children’s Gallery of the Phoenix Art Museum on Feb. 27. In addition, several guests toured the museum before and after the event. Twenty-five alumni, friends, and parents attended, including hosts Preston ’03 and Allison Maschmann ’04 Meints, Harvey and Ginger Trent, and Brandon Wiese ’03. Also attending from Doane were Dan Meyer, director of planned giving, and Cody Vance ’82, director of special projects.

The Doane Choir toured throughout Nebraska, Minnesota, and South DakotaAlumni Entertained On 2007 Midwest Choir Tour

In February, the Doane College Choir entertained alumni parents and friends on a three-state tour in South Dakota, Nebraska and Minnesota, ending with a home concert in Crete.

Alumni were invited to join the choir for dinner in FalconMarjorie Tarr, friend; Bob '57 and Bev Loetterle, and Jeremy Becker Heights, Minn. and then stay for the concert. Don Nyrop ’34 was recognized for the President’s Award for Leadership which he received the next day. The award recognizes alumni and friends who have shown extraordinary service and leadership in their communities and work.

Networking Event

A networking event was held at the Breckenridge Brewery in downtown Denver on March 22. The event introduced young alumni moving to the area to alumni already living there and provided them with business contacts. Jon Drogheo ’94 led the event along with various members of the Rocky Mountain Alumni Chapter. Twenty-five current students from Doane traveled to Denver for this event. Attending from Doane were Kari Nott ’03, assistant director of The Doane Fund, and Dan Meyer, director of planned giving.

'Downpour' members at Cheers in BostonBoston Luncheon

David Scott ’74 hosted an alumni luncheon at the Boston Marriott Newton on March 24, complete with black table cloths and specially-ordered orange napkins. Other hosts included Cal Hennig ’64, Dennis ’67 and Linda Nelson, and Art ’70 and Kathy Graves ’71 Iworsley. Forty-five guests, ranging in age from seven to 93, were in attendance.

'Downpour' with Dick and Bunny DudleyEntertainment was provided by “Downpour,” Doane’s award-winning barbershop quartet of Ben Rickert, senior, Geneva; Jason Sitzman, senior, Columbus; Allen Gilbert, senior, Crete; and David Purdham, junior, Springfield. Dick ’56 and Lillian “Bunny” Albrecht ’55 Dudley attended from Doane.
