In this vision of Doane, existing innovations
expand and new innovations take root. Everyone sees
something different in this imagined space. Some
visualize a united learning community, where all
disciplines connect to each other and to the world.
Others imagine a diverse and global campus, with more
students traveling and studying internationally. Still others picture students competing at the highest
levels academically and athletically, adding to the long
list of Fulbright winners and student athletes before
them. They see students competing on modern
arenas such as a new Recreation
and Athletic Center; see them
studying and interacting in new
academic, and technology spaces.
Glimpses are in place already, in
the Common Grounds Coffeehouse,
the Liberal Arts Seminars, the
advanced technology in the
Chab Weyers Education and Hixson Lied Art Building,
and the wood-and-prairie beauty of the
new Jose M. and Elizabeth Ledon softball
and baseball complex. It's the Doane that
began here 136 years ago, still true to its mission
and its tradition as Nebraska's first liberal arts and sciences college.
But this is its vision, its not-so-distant future. It will take the entire Doane
community to reach it.
Many students come to Doane because someone spoke
highly of their experience with the college.
Those students receive their own degrees in part because of the unseen community of alumni and friends of Doane behind them, people who mentor, guide and donate toward tuition and the amenities that help the new Doane experience match their own.
We see this vision, this interactive campus crowded with intellect and energy.
