Educational Leadership

Students engage in discussions in the classroom to promote interaction and hands on learningThe Master of Education in Educational Leadership began in the summer of 1996 and is designed to prepare school principals to meet the challenges of today's schools. The program was developed collaboratively with practicing school administrators in Nebraska and utilizes recommendations from the National Policy Board for Educational Administration.

The program in Educational Leadership prepares candidates for positions as school assistant principals and principals in Nebraska. It is designed to help participants manage change and create collaborative action on behalf of teaching and learning. It consists of a series of integrated courses and experiences focusing on the various dimensions of school leadership to support teaching and learning in K-12 schools. Through classroom learning, experiences in the field, reflective activities, and action-based research, students will move to an increasingly complex understanding of the role of leaders in today's schools.

All participants start the program in the summer term in a cadre, which provides continuity and support for its members as they move through the program together. During the summer term, participants concentrate their study at Doane's Lincoln campus. Action research and field experiences are offered in Nebraska schools during the academic year, with seminars in Lincoln.

Doane's graduate program in education is site-based. Currently, Doane offers the M.Ed. in approximately 16 locations in Nebraska. as well as the Navajo Nation in New Mexico and Arizona.

The graduate programs are fully accredited by the North Central Association, the State of Nebraska and the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).
