Doane College's graduate programs in education, which offers degrees in Curriculum and Instruction and Educational Leadership, consists of courses and supervised field experiences, and is designed to develop and enhance the knowledge, attitude, and skills of participants. Professional Certification or Administrative Certification is obtained by completing the applicable education or teaching graduate programs.
Curriculum and Instruction
The Master of Education (MED) program is committed to excellence while giving special attention to the needs of K-12 teachers. Many of the classes offered in this site-based program are held in K-12 schools across Nebraska. Currently, Doane offers the Masters of Education program in Nebraska in approximately 16 locations in Nebraska.
Course content for the Master of Education is designed with concern for:
- best practice
- current research
- commitment to the application
- evaluation of the content
Doane's holistic approach recognizes that the cumulative effects of the completed Master of Education graduate degree program are greater than the sum of the courses.
Educational Leadership
The Educational Leadership program prepares candidates for positions as school assistant principals and principals in Nebraska. It is designed to help participants manage change and create collaborative action on behalf of teaching and learning. It consists of a series of integrated courses and experiences focusing on the various dimensions of school leadership to support teaching and learning in K-12 schools. Students move through the program in a cohort beginning in the first summer experience. Students will move to an increasingly complex understanding of the role of leaders in today's schools through:
- classroom learning
- experiences in the field
- reflective activities
- action-based research
