Doane Learning Communities

Life isn't divided neatly into categories like physics, religion and economics.

Neither is Doane.

Through the Doane Learning Community, students have the unique opportunity to experience how subjects and ideas are interconnected -how they relate with one another.

The Doane Learning Community seeks to actively engage students in an interdependent web of learning. These experiences link students, faculty and courses from different disciplines to each other and to leadership opportunities, service learning, travel and more.

For example, Doane students do not learn about Pablo Picasso's painting of Guernica simply as a piece of art. Rather, they study what went on in the world when he painted it. As a community, students and faculty studying history, psychology and art come together to examine, interpret, and connect the complexity of the work far beyond the canvas.

The Doane Learning Community is an environment that explicitly connects learners to other learners, to the world beyond campus and to their personal educational goals. This challenges students to better understand the diverse nature of the world, to think more critically, and to communicate more effectively.

The world is diverse. It is complicated. It has many layers connected in unique ways. The Doane Learning Community deliberately prepares students to succeed in that world.
