The Doane Theatre Experience
In keeping with Doane College's mission to stimulate inquiry, enhance knowledge and promote examination and development of values and perspectives, the theatre department guides students to a general knowledge of basic theatrical skills required to understand and create artistic works. The theatre department provides students with a variety of theatrical experiences (both academic and extracurricular) to help each student form a personal perspective in the dramatic arts.
- Four mainstage productions a year (two each semester), plus studio productions
- Student leadership is emphasized at all levels
- Students design, act, direct, and assist with scenery, lighting, costuming, props, sounds, publicity, stage management, makeup, and house management
- Theatre majors have the opportunity to create a senior project in any area of the discipline
- Doane students regularly collaborate on original productions with professional writers and directors
- Students write, direct, and perform their original works
- Public School Certification:
- Doane guarantees school districts that graduates will meet the schools’ expectations or the college will
provide further training to graduates at no cost
- Proactive faculty place students in internships all over, including New York and London
- Summer research opportunities and available funds for student travel
- Doane Players is a social and service organization that serves and promotes the theatre department and students interested in theatre. This organization is open to all students.
- Regular trips to New York and Chicago
As well, the theatre department prepares its students for professional activity and graduate study in the performing arts.
