Doane College Forensics continues to have success on the national level. Most recently, the Doane College Forensics team placed 15th at the American Forensics Association (AFA) National Individual Events Tournament.

2011 State Tournament Results
  • Alyssa Bouc, first-year, took 1st place in Informative Speaking and also received the Top Novice Award in this event. She is the first novice in Doane College forensics history to be a state champion.
  • Alisha Forbes, sophomore, took 2nd place in Persuasive Speaking, which qualified her to compete at the Interstate Oratorical Association's National Contest in Boston, Massachusetts, April 26-28. Established in 1874, the Interstate Oratorical Association represents the oldest competitive collegiate speaking association in North America. Each year, the top two persuasive speakers in each state are qualified to attend. Speeches from the national competitors each year are assembled and published in a book entitled "Winning Orations." Many contestants in the IOA contests have gone on to establish themselves meritoriously in a number of professions. Past participants include William Jennings Bryan, George McGovern, Vernon Jordan, Barbara Jordan, John Finley, Albert Beveridge, and far too many other distinguished individuals to list.
  • Kyle Carroll, senior, placed 3rd in Extemporaneous Speaking, 5th in Persuasive Speaking, and was nominated for the Spirit of NIFA Award. The Spirit of NIFA Award is a sportsmanship award given to students who serve as a good example to all other students in the organization.

  • Erik Buser, junior, placed 6th in Prose Interpretation.
