Doane Choir Releases New CD

The Doane College choral department has released its first compact disc in several years. Titled "Doane Choir on Tour," the CD features several of Doane's choral organizations: Doane Choir, Doublewide, and the quartet Downpour.

The performances all took place in the 2004-2005 and 2005-2006 academic years, mostly while the choir toured in the Midwest and California. Some were also recorded during on-campus performances and recording sessions.

Produced in association with Arnold Sound Recordings (of Manhattan, Kan.), the CDs are available for $15 at the Doane bookstore. They can also be purchased online by visiting the bookstore's online link: http://bookstore.doane.edu/

Proceeds from the sale of the CD will go to fund future choral recording projects. The choir is conducted by Doane assistant professor Dr. Kurt Runestad, and accompanied by Lisa McGlynn.

The Theatre Department

The theatre production of Phedre on stage

At Doane, we believe that great theatre programs must prepare and train students for careers in all contemporary and emerging entertainment forms -- including live theatre, film, television, video, themed entertainment, and more. Our students live in a world that is interactive, collaborative, and fueled by their passion for our art form -- one that encompasses the many forms of professional practice as well as the theoretical exploration of current and emerging entertainment forms.

Our faculty and staff are known for their artistic accomplishments, professional achievements, and their ability to serve as inspiring teachers and mentors. Our students are passionate about the theatre and its possibilities -- in both scholarship and performance; they are eager to experiment and take creative risks. As an example of that risk-taking, in January 2006, our innovative rendition of Phedre was honored as a selected production to present at the 2006 Region V ACTF in Fargo, North Dakota. Our production of Woyzeck recieved a nomination for best scene the next year. This year's homage to Buster Keaton, Reeling, was honored with our third nomination in three years for best selected production.

At this year’s Region V ACTF, Doane College was awarded three outstanding accolades: the honored Meritorious Achievement Awards for Comic Ensemble (cast of Reeling); Acting Ensemble (cast of The Arabian Nights); & Costume Design (Donna Himmelberger for The Arabian Nights.)
