The History Department offers a range of courses in Western and non-Western history. Requirements for the history major and minor are below. Requirements for the History Major:
Complete 1 or 2.
1. Complete the following:
a. HIS 105, 106, 205, 206, 496.
b. Five additional elective courses in history with at least one course from each of the areas of American (302, 305, 306, 312, 314, 315, 320, 321, 329, 337, 352), European (317, 318, 341, 348, 349, 335, 350) and non-Western (302, 314, 326, 338, 342, 346).
2. Students seeking certification for teaching in history must complete the following:
a. HIS 105, 106, 205, 206, 302 or 321, 496.
b. Four additional elective courses in history with at least one course from each of the areas of American (302, 305, 306, 312, 314, 315, 320, 321, 329, 337, 352), European (317, 318, 341, 348, 349, 335, 350) and non-Western (302, 314, 326, 338, 342, 346).
c. Cognates SSI 322, 323, 324, 325 and a total of six or more credits chosen from one or more of the areas of economics, political science, and sociology.
d. One additional teaching major.
e. All requirements listed under the catalog section Secondary Education.
Requirements for the History Minor:
1. Complete HIS 105 (or 106) and HIS 205 (or 206).
2. Complete four additional history courses at the 300/400 level.
