Four full-time faculty members teach in the Journalism and Communication Department.  Areas of expertise/interests include: broadcast radio, television production, journalism, broadcast delivery, media ethics and history, forensics, intercultural communication, rhetorical criticism, and communication training and development.

David Swartzlander, the Journalism Department chairman, is an assistant professor of journalism and the adviser to the student newspaper, The Doane Owl; the yearbook, The Tiger; and the student news Web site, The Doane Line. He teaches Basic News Writing and Reporting, Beat Reporting, Editing and Design and Multiplatform Journalism.

Lee Thomas is an associate professor of journalism and advises KDNE, Doane's student-operated radio station. He teaches Broadcast Journalism Writing, Media Production, Broadcast Performance, Journalism History, Contemporary Issues, Journalism Topics, Legal and Ethical Issues and the Capstone Seminar and Workshop.
