The English major is designed for a variety of professions where a sound foundation in general literacy is important, from editing and writing to teaching and law. The major provides unusually strong preparation for graduate study as well, through the core of required courses. The major combines well with a variety of other majors. Note that a second area is needed for teaching certification in English.
