Program Offerings The Division of Economics and Business is committed to providing the opportunities and environment for you to develop analytical and creative thought processes to make effective and ethical business-related decisions. Majors are offered in Accounting, Business Administration, Business Principles (for secondary education students), and Economics.

Program Emphases
An economics major will prepare you for a variety of careers in business and government; it also provides an excellent foundation for graduate or professional school. The study of economics is designed from a liberal arts perspective, and emphasizes both economic theory and policy analysis. Through case studies, simulations, internships, classroom study and discussion, and research, economics students at Doane are active participants in learning.
Course Offerings
As an economics major, you will take a full slate of courses in economics, both core courses and electives, as well as courses in business administration, mathematics, and information science and technology.
A partial listing of courses includes: international trade and development, money and banking, industrial organization, comparative economic systems, and environmental economics.
The economics major prepares students for a variety of careers in business and government. Economics provides a logical way of looking at various problems and issues. Students examine the choices that individuals and groups make concerning the allocation of scarce resources to meet limitless wants. Economics also complements many other areas of study. A minor in economics is available.
Requirements for the Economics Major:
1. Complete the following 30 credits: ECO 203, 204, 303, 304, 419, 495 and four additional courses at the 300-400 level, excluding ECO 421.
2. Complete the following cognates: BUS 215 (or MTH 356), MTH 115 or 235. (MTH 235 is strongly recommended for students considering graduate study in economics.)
Requirements for the Economics Minor:
1. Complete 18 credits: ECO 203, 204, 303 (or 304), excluding ECO 421.

Students
Approximately 160-180 students major in one of the four areas in the Division of Economics and Business.
