Senator Hugh Butler Academic Leadership Scholarship

Doane College continues to lead the way for students engaged in community leadership and committed to academic excellence. The Butler Scholarship is Doane College's highest academic merit scholarship awarded to first-year students. This full-tuition scholarship is renewable for up to eight semesters with a minimum Doane College grade point average of 3.50 and full-time enrollment status. The award will be offered to four applicants, with two alternates identified.


To be considered for the Butler Scholarship, high school graduating students must:

  • Apply for admission
  • Have a minimum 3.60 unweighted high school grade point average
  • Score 30 or higher on the ACT (1320 or higher on the SAT's Critical Reading and Math sections)
  • Complete the Butler Scholarship application (see form below) no later than February 1, 2012.
  • Submit a personal resume no later than February 1, 2012.  Personal resumes may be sent via e-mail to admission@doane.edu

Finalists will be notified by the Office of Admission and will be invited to campus to interview with the selection committee. In-person interviews must be completed at the convenience of the applicant prior to February 17, 2012.  Applications will not be considered complete without the application, resume, and personal interview.

Butler Scholars will be selected based on their:

  • Personal interview
  • Academic achievements
  • Potential contribution to the Doane College community
  • Commitment to leadership

Students who qualify to apply for the Butler Scholarship will be automatically awarded the Presidential Scholarship. The application for admission is necessary for scholarship consideration at Doane College. Alternates will receive a $1,000 recognition award in addition to their Presidential Scholarship if the are not selected to receive the award. Other sources of financial aid may be available to Butler Scholarship recipients by completing the FAFSA application at www.fafsa.ed.gov.
