Moving into Your College Room
Housing completes room assignments and mails out the information each summer. Once you receive your letter, you should first call your roommate and coordinate what each of you will bring. Nothing is worse than having two refrigerators but no TV (or even two of everything!). Please note, we provide no student storage on campus. You can also download and print a copy of this list here.
Major items to coordinate with your roommate(s): - Mini fridge

Essentials:
- Power strip/Surge protector (no extension cords allowed!)
- Alarm clock
- Laundry basket, detergent, and quarters
- Bedding - pillows and extra-long twin sheets
- Fan (especially if you are in Smith!)
- Shower tote and sandals
- Personal hygiene items
- Message board or marker board
- 3M or other removable tape
- Pictures of friends and family
- School supplies
- Flashlight and batteries
- Cup, bowl, fork, and spoon

- Candles, incense, or anything else with an open flame
Doane College Residence Hall Reminders
Sheldon, Smith and Frees Hall rooms have hard surface floors; Hansen is carpeted.
All rooms have basic cable.
All rooms have wireless internet.
All residence halls have pay laundry facilities - quarters or pre-paid cards.
All residence halls have a computer lab.
All residence halls have kitchen facilities and microwaves,
We enforce these rules to comply with fire code regulations, keep room damages and student fines to a minimum, and also to prevent power surge problems. We do not want to jeopardize students' safety or cause problems to computers operating in any of the rooms in the event of a power failure.
Doane College prohibits permit holders from possessing or carrying a concealed handgun on the premises, unless otherwise authorized by law. Violation of this prohibition is a criminal offense. Pursuant to the Nebraska revised statute, 69-2441.
Tips From Current Students - Don't be afraid to go outside your comfort zone and meet new people.
- Don't be afraid to ask questions.
- Buying used books can save you money.
- Get some exercise to help avoid the freshman 15.
- Make time to study... this is college.
- The Administration wants to help you if you have a question or concern.
- RA's are always available to talk with.
- Tutors are available to you at no charge so don't be afraid to ask.
- There are clubs and activities for all of your interests.
- Doane provides numerous things to do on the weekend ranging from card tournaments and dances to casino and bingo nights where you can win prizes.
- There are computer labs in all of the dorms.
- You have internet access in your room.
- Vending and Laundry machines are available in the dorms. It costs $.75 for wash and $.75 for 1hr of dry. (Laundry prices subject to change without notice)
- Basic cable is free or you can purchase extended service through Time-Warner company.
- Each floor has a vacuum and other cleaning supplies you can use.
- All dorms have kitchens with a microwave, oven, and refrigerator.
- All dorms have well furnished lounge areas to study, play games in or relax.
- Bike racks are available for your bike.
- Laptops are available to checkout from the library.
- Change for the laundry or vending machines is available from one of the hall representatives or at the Business Office or Bookstore.
- College life can be rough at times. If you need to talk with somebody talk with your RA or RD they are there to help. Trained counselors are also available in the Health and Wellness center.
- Each hall elects a hall council. They set budgets, activities and rules for their hall.
- Each hall has various recreation equipment as well as games, DVD and VHS movies to check out free of charge.
- Basic phone service is provided at no charge and covers calls to other rooms and the Crete community.
- Beds, desks, desk chairs, study lamps, and closet/drawer space are provided in each room. You may want to bring items from home and collaborate with your roommate about what will give your room a more personal feeling.
