2009 Accomplishments

Jennifer Petersen Bossard, Instructor in Economics, published a paper titled "Representation of Women Faculty at Public Research Universities: Do Unions Matter?" in 2009, in preparation for its July 2010 issue of the Industrial and Labor Relations Review.  The Paper was co-authored with Dr. Ann Mari May and Dr. Elizabeth Moorhouse.

Les Manns, Professor of Economics, is serving as Nebraska Economics and Business Association (NEBA) president for 2009.  Dr. Manns and Deryl Merritt, Associate Professor of Business, have begun working with the Wilber Area Economic Development Committee as it seeks out new possibilities for economic development in Wilber.  Dr. Manns hosted a Hansen Leadership Program Faculty in Residence Forum on the U.S. economy and President-elect Obama's economic plans in November of 2008.

Timothy Wiedman, Assistant Professor of Management/Human Resources, attended the Society for Human Resources Management State Conference in Omaha.  Dr. Wiedman also authored an article, "The Economic Case for Auditing Health Plan Eligibility" which was published in the December 2008 issue of Lincoln Human Resources Management Association newsletter.

Rod Diercks, Associate Professor of Education, Is on the advisory board for the Young Nebraska Scientist Initiative.  

Linda Kalbach, Assistant Professor of Education, Was also elected to the Board of Directors of the Mid-West Consortium of Service Learning in Higher Education.

Julie Kozisek, Professor of Education, has been elected to serve in a three year position as President of the Nebraska State Reading Association.

Phil Weitl, Assistant Professor of English, Lead the initiative to open a writing center in Gaylord during the fall 2009 semester.

Dr. Dan Clanton has published two articles and two book reviews.  His new book is Daring, Disreputable, and Devout: How Biblical Women Have Been Portrayed in the Arts and Popular Culture, New York and London: T&T Clark, 2009.

Professor McKercher directed Glorious! at the Fulton Theatre in Lancaster, PA and the Civil War Voices at the Lied Center for the Performing Arts in Lincoln.

Lee Thomas, Associate Professor of Communication Studies, was elected to the Nebraska Broadcasting Hall Of Fame and will be inducted this summer.

Bill Wolensky, Associate Professor of Mathematics, published the book Methods of Mathematical Biology with co-author David Logan at UNL.

Dr. Russ Souchek, Associate Professor of Biology, was elected Board Vice-President for Administration of the Nebraska Wildlife Federation and was appointed to the Education Advisory Committee of Spring Creek Audubon Prairie.

Dr. Heather York, Assistant Professor of Biology, published one paper and will present an invited lecture for the Ecology, Evolution and Behavior seminar series at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL).

Dr. Andrea Holmes, Assistant Professor of Chemistry, has three papers accepted for publication and submitted one patent application.  She was also awarded the National Science Foundation (NSF) Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) award.

Kate Marley, Associate Processor of Biology, is presenting at the annual Meeting of the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in New Orleans.

Drs. Mark Meysenburg, Bill Wolensky, Chris Wentworth, and Brian Pauwels from the Psychology Department were selected by the Council on Undergraduate Research to participate in a workshop on Institutionalizing Undergraduate Research held at Truman State University. 

Dr. Edan Jorgenson, Assistant Professor of Sociology, presented a paper on workplace loyalty at the American Sociological Annual Meetings.
