November 29

Hi Everyone,

We're packing and doing last things in Windhoek before we take the overnight bus to Cape Town at 6 P.M. Seven of us had dinner with Herman and Erica, owners of Backpackers Unite, at the NICE restaurant (Namibia Institute for Culinary Education). This is a beautifully restored estate--modern decor, with high ceilings, and several outdoor eating areas (one around a pool). The chefs work in full view, dressed in their white hats and aprons.  Lots of attention to presentation as well as quality.  Alyssa took photos, not only of the gorgeous food, but also of the bathroom. We had creme broulet, mousse, apple dumpling---which arrived with carmelized flowers, homemade ice cream, mint leaves, orange slices. It was fun to be out with Herman and Erica  who have been so helpful to us in arranging  our excursions in Namibia as well as finding accommodations in Cape Town.

Namibia is a favorite for many---it is a beautiful and varied country,  Windhoek has a visibly integrated middle class. Swakop, much less so. We love the Namib desert and dunes. And the weather.

More from Cape Town.  We are coming to the end of classes---our last day will be the 8th. Take care.  Thanks for the mail.
