The Doane Theatre Experience

In keeping with Doane College's mission to prepare students for lives rooted in intellectual inquiry, ethical values, and responsible citizenship, the theatre department guides students to a general knowledge of basic theatrical skills required to understand and create artistic works. The theatre department provides students with a variety of theatrical experiences (both academic and extracurricular) to help each student form a personal perspective in the dramatic arts.

  • Four mainstage productions a year (two each semester), plus numerous studio productions
  • Student leadership is emphasized at all levels
  • Students design, act, direct, and assist with scenery, lighting, costuming, props, sounds, publicity, stage management, makeup, and house management
  • Theatre majors have the opportunity to create a senior project in any area of the discipline
  • Doane students regularly collaborate on original productions with professional writers and directors
  • Students write, direct, and perform their original works
  • Public School Certification:
    • Doane guarantees school districts that graduates will meet the schools’ expectations or the college will provide further training to graduates at no cost
  • Proactive faculty place students in internships in major cities, including New York, Chicago, and London
  • Summer research opportunities and available funds for student travel
  • Doane Players is a social and service organization that serves and promotes the theatre department and students interested in theatre. This organization is open to all students.
