Physics Major
The Physics Major at Doane College has two tracks: one is for students with interests in graduate school, engineering, or pursuing a technical career after leaving Doane; the other is for students wishing to teach physics in a high school. The two tracks are described below.
Track 1. Complete the following:
a. A minimum of 35 credits in physics with a cumulative grade point average of 2.00 or above.
b. PHY 201, 202 (preferred) or PHY 107, 108.
c. PHY 225 within two semesters of completing item "b" above.
d. PHY 302, 306, 314, 325, 435 (or 4 credits of 471).
e. Four additional credits in physics at the 300-400 level.
f. The senior project sequence: 395, 495, 496.
g. Cognates CHM 125, IST 145, MTH 235, 236, 337, 329.
Track 2. For students seeking secondary education certification in physics, complete the following:
a. A minimum of 24 credits in physics with a cumulative grade point average of 2.80 or above.
b. PHY 201, 202 (preferred) or PHY 107, 108.
c. PHY 225 within two semesters of completing "b" above.
d. PHY 302, 306, 314, 325.
e. Cognates AST 103, 103L, (or GEO 103), BIO 120, CHM 125, IST 145, MTH 235, 236,337, NSI 322, 324, 326, 327.
f. One additional teaching major or subject endorsement.
g. All requirements listed under the catalog section Secondary Education.
