Doane College Sponsors TriMathlon Math Contest 2000
The first annual Doane TriMathlon Math Contest was held at the Lied Science & Mathematics Center on Tuesday, October 17, 2000. The participating high schools were: Fairbury, Hebron, Lincoln Northeast, Nebraska City, Waverly, and Weeping Water.
The math contest consisted of three stages. The Individual Written Test was a 25-question, multiple-choice exam. During the Extreme Team Challenge teams produced written solutions to two problems involving the Merrill Bell Tower on Doane's beautiful campus. The Math Bowl paired three-person teams in a quiz bowl tournament.
Individual Written Test award winners were: first place -Tristan Skrdla Markwell - LNE; second place - Viet Nguyen - LNE; third place - Thuy Hong - LNE.
The Extreme Team Challenge award winners were: first place - Nebraska City (Stephanie Duffy, Kara Gordon, Jennifer Rieken); second place - Waverly;, third place - LNE.
The award winners for the Math Bowl were: first place - LNE (Tristan Skrdla Markwell, Viet Nguyen, Phu Tran);, second place - LNE; third place - Nebraska City. The Overall Team Winner was Lincoln Northeast High School. All award winners received medals, the Overall Team Winner received a trophy, and all participants received a TriMathlon t-shirt.
The contest was sponsored by the Doane College Mathematics Department and Admissions Office.
